WW PRESIDENT JOINS NCLB DISCUSSION
Levine joins Merrow, education leaders in online discussion of No Child Left Behind
PRINCETON, N.J.—This week WW president Arthur Levine joins education policy experts, school district administrators and classroom teachers in an online forum on the future of the No Child Left Behind Act, moderated by noted education journalist John Merrow.
The discussion, titled “Do We Need a Basic Rewrite of ‘No Child Left Behind’?” begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, and runs through 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7 at www.newtalk.org, a free interactive website that seeks to broaden national debates by hosting discussions with renowned experts and practitioners.
NewTalk’s three-day NCLB forum will examine needed changes in the policy and explore education issues facing the next presidential administration. Members of the general public can view the discussion as it unfolds or join the conversation alongside the experts. The full discussion will be archived on the NewTalk site after completion.
In addition to Arthur Levine, participants in the discussion include Chester E. Finn, Jr. of the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation; Frederick Hess of the American Enterprise Institute; Philip K. Howard of Common Good; Diane Ravitch, former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education, now at NYU; Gerald Tirozzi of the National Association of Secondary School Principals; Deborah Wadsworth of Public Agenda; Jerry Wartgow, formerly of the Denver Public Schools; and Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers. Merrow, president of Learning Matters and education correspondent for PBS’s The News Hour with Jim Lehrer, will moderate. For a full list of participants, visit www.newtalk.org.
NewTalk was created and is supported by the nonprofit organization Common Good in recognition of the need to improve the quality of public discourse on a broad range of topics. Both NewTalk and Common Good were founded by Philip K. Howard, lawyer and author of the bestseller, “The Death of Common Sense.”
